I
t is a difficult decision whether to invest resources in new treatments for those affected by Alzheimer’s disease in more advanced stages. Why not? We’ve always liked challenges, as Emerson said: “Nothing great was ever done without enthusiasm” and coincidentally, enthusiasm and affection are the two most profitable financial assets, and they are free.
Could it be that we cannot do anything for them? ”And for their families? Is it better to corner them, or hide because we live in a society where what prevails is the good, young and competitive?
They have dedicated their lives to care for, teach, and join in the difficult task of living, and I believe we have an obligation to care for them, encourage them, and accompany them in the difficult task of dying.
Although it sounds hard, Alzheimer’s disease, accelerates the arrival of the inevitable end, our memory dies first, which is allowed the luxury to make us forget ourselves, our loved ones, everything good or bad that we have experienced in our lives. Then little by little we lose our ability to live independently and need someone by our side constantly. And finally, we forget to live.
This is the reality that more than 800,000 people living in Spain, but here and now I speak of Tere, Marisa, Pepe, Jose Luis, Norberto, Elizabeth, and unfortunately many others who pass through this workshop is delaying the inevitable arrival of final oblivion.
We have opted for the creation of a multi-sensory stimulation workshop, and with your permission I will be describing in more detail in the coming weeks.
